Renting an Apartment

Description of Apartments
Several types of apartments are available in Algeria, from an F1 (studio) to an F6 or F7.
Normal Lease Term
In general the lease is for a year with renewal by tacit agreement.
Rental Costs
You may frequently be asked to pay 1 or 2 years' rent in advance.
Agencies or Private Rentals
Going through a rental agency may be more convenient, but the fees required are often sizeable (once or twice the monthly rent).
Renting directly from an individual is less expensive, but the value for money often varies from one apartment to another.

School System

School Level
Education in Algeria breaks down into 3 stages: - preschool, for children of 4 to 6 (optional); fundamental education from 6 to 16 which is divided into 3 cycles of 3 years each (basic cycle, early-learning cycle and middle school cycle), this cycle is successfully concluded by the B.E.F (Brevet d'Enseignement Fondamental - Certificate of Fundamental Education) ; - secondary education for 3 years.
International Schools
The EHISA, El Hourouf International School of Algiers, offers education in English.
The small school of Hydra is approved by the French Ministry of National Education. The school is reserved for children of expatriate managers from the European Union (from nursery school to age 11). The Alexandre Dumas International High School (from age 15 to 18) gives classes for the "economic and social" and "scientific" sections, the literary section is not open yet.
Algiers also has a German school.

Health System

Quality of Healthcare
The public health system, in spite of excellent skills, is sometimes run-down. Great efforts have been made by the Algerian government to modernize the health sector, with the construction of many hospitals. The weaknesses of the public sector are amply made up for by the many private clinics.
