Tablet PCs continue to hold the prime spot on Global Sources' list of top 20 electronics, and computer and telecom products, with refined product categorization showing October inquiries focusing on Android-powered units.
This mirrors the rapid ascent, which took the computer world by surprise, of the open-source OS on the consumer side. Android was predicted to surpass Apple’s share of the tablet market, but not in the next year or so. Early forecasts saw Android tablets taking over in 2015.
Android's popularity is spreading to other electronic devices. Within the Global Sources website, inquiries for Android-based TV set-top boxes jumped 55 percent MoM in October, enabling the line to break into the top 20.
Meanwhile, power banks climbed several ranks and is now the third most-searched category on the list, with inquiries rising 40 percent from September. The line's impressive run is even more evident YoY. October 2012 searches ballooned more than 2,800 percent from October 2011, the fourth consecutive month that inquiries grew in four digits.
