China Battery Industry Research

Jiangsu, Guangdong and Zhejiang are the major production bases for battery industry in China, according to China Battery Industry Profile - the industry research report issued by Zeefer Consulting. Jiangsu has most leading battery enterprises, and among all top 100 large battery enterprises across China, 22 are located in Jiangsu. Shandong, Shanghai, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hebei, Tianjin and Hubei are the secondary distribution areas for this industry.

In terms of market size, in 2009, battery enterprises above designated size achieved a sales revenue of more than USD 35 billion. Total assets of enterprises inside battery industry exceeded USD 35 billion, a rise of more than 20% on a year-on-year basis. The total number of enterprises above designated size in battery industry was more than 1,000, a rise of more than 25% on a year-on-year basis. The total export delivery value exceeded USD 10 billion, a decline of about 10% on a year-on-year basis.

In terms of industry-wide profit, in 2009, profits of enterprises above designated size in battery industry added up to more than USD 2 billion, a decline of more than 4% on a year-on-year basis. A total of more than 250 enterprises suffered a loss, the percentage of loss-incurring enterprises was higher than 20%. On average, the ratio of return on net assets in battery industry was higher than 10%.

In terms of market position of foreign enterprises in China, in 2009, sales revenue from foreign enterprises engaged in battery production in China added up to more than USD 20 billion, taking a share of more than 60% of the gross sales revenue from battery enterprises across China. Foreign enterprises in China battery industry achieved a ratio of return on sales of more than 6%, almost same with the industry average.
