Makers are using intelligent CPUs and HUDs to produce more user-friendly models.
China suppliers of parking assist systems are updating selections to keep up with new vehicle makes and models. Differences in consumer requirements are also considered, with many companies targeting several geographic and price segments.
Makers are taking advantage of new technologies to increase their products' marketability. At most businesses, head-up displays and smart control units are being adopted to enhance accuracy, stability and durability.
Guangzhou Yatour Electronics Technology Co. Ltd, for instance, has developed an intelligent parking assist system for vehicles employing electronic stability control and OBD CAN bus. Designed to be plugged into a car's OBD-II port, the company's model YT-M08 IPAS generates parking trajectories based on CAN bus data provided by the ESC. The product targets the high-end segment and is priced at more than $40 per set.
Shenzhen Elitek Co. Ltd has released a reverse parking aid equipped with a sensor module that distinguishes real obstacles from the spare tire and other protrusions at the back. Offered with an LED display, the system has a range of 0 to 2.5m and an accuracy of ±1cm. It is 30 percent more expensive than conventional 4-sensor sets.
Fuzhou Minpn Electronic Technology Co. Ltd is offering designs with patented HUDs. A recent addition to the series, the MP-232HUDS-F model projects the vehicle's speed and distance to the obstacle on a 75x45x15mm screen.
The company's HUD parking assist systems target the midrange, similar to versions using LCD monitors. Export markets include Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
Besides providing up-to-date options, suppliers are keeping price increases to a minimum to boost competitiveness. In line with this, many are replacing imported electronic components with local versions that perform on a par with the former. Some enterprises are opting to produce parts in-house.

China produces about 20 million sets of parking assist systems annually. The selection includes wired and wireless types, with the first accounting for the bulk of output and exports.
The majority of models use ultrasonic transducers, but versions employing electromagnetic technology are also offered. The components are typically shock-resistant and fitted with water- and dust-resistant sockets. Their operating temperature ranges from -40 to 80 C.
Most sensors have a maximum detection distance of 2m, although units for heavy vehicles can work within 5m. The accuracy is between 1 and 10cm.
The bulk of China-made parking assist systems provide audio and visual feedback. Models with LED displays are the mainstream, with LCD, VFD and TFT-LED monitors the other options.
Systems with semicircular or crescent-shaped LED displays are $9 to $40 per set. Bundled with two to eight transducers,
these generally show obstacle distance and emit a beeping alarm. Versions at the higher end of the price spectrum have an animated display and a voice module.
LCD and VFD parking sensors range from $10 to $45. Their 2.5 to 3.5in screens usually show the temperature, humidity, date, time and other information, in addition to the obstacle distance.
Priced at least $30, rearview camera systems come with 3.5 to 7in TFT-LCD screen. Each has four to eight transducers and
For the latter, CMOS types are used in roughly 90 percent of output, and the rest employs CCD or CMD alternatives. Most cameras cover 100 to 120 degrees, and some can provide 170-degree views. Their operating temperature ranges from -40 to 65 C.
Parking aids with cameras often have multiple functions. Many are fitted with add-ons such as AM/FM radios, USB ports, SD slots, TVs and DVD players. A number also come with rearview mirrors.
For audio-only releases, quotes range from $4 to $8. Each set includes two to eight transducers and a buzzer alarm. A voice module is optional.
The volume of the audio warning is typically adjustable to three levels. Systems for cars have a beep volume equal to or greater than 80dB, while versions for heavy vehicles are louder than 120dB.
