Egypt will exclude Ukraine from its list of wheat exporters in 2013. The Vice-President of the main raw material
supply management (GASC) of Egypt Mr. Nomani Nomani informed on that the Reuters news agency on Thursday, 15
November, 2012. It was stated out of public during the Global Grain Conference in Geneva. "We have received an
official letter stating that from 1 December, 2012 the exports from Ukraine will be stopped starting from
January. GASC will remove Ukraine from the list ", - explained Nomani Nomani. According to him, if Ukraine wants
to restore export, it will require going through a number of conditions: "One of them - a promise not to
introduce restrictions on the implementation of future contracts." From January to April 2012/2013 marketing
year (MY) Egypt plans to purchase an additional 1.5 million tons of wheat.
The decision to limit exports of Ukrainian wheat will be made with grain traders.
The next meeting with the grain traders, which will decide on the further coordination of actions in the grain
market has been scheduled for the end of November. This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and
Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk in an interview with news agency "UNIAN"on 15 November, 2012.
"Obviously, the volume of exports of wheat will gradually decrease, and the market will focus on corn. In the
current MY, we plan to export a total of 14-15 million tons of corn”.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine forecasts grain harvest of about 46.2 million tons in
Ukraine in 2012.
The grain harvest in Ukraine will be about 46.2 million tons of grain compared to a record of 56.7 million tons
in 2011, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, with reference to early November regions’
According to the Ministry press-service as of 9 November, 2012 there have been harvested 43 million tons of
grains and legumes from 14 million ha, or 95% of the planned areas for harvest.
