On October 26, 2012, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued an advisory on approval procedures for new products and ingredients.

According to the new FSSAI advisory, all food business operators (FBOs) must apply for approval before commercializing a new product or ingredient. General Information: On October 26, 2012, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued an advisory on approval procedures for new products and ingredients. The new FSSAI advisory withdraws paragraph 4 of the previous advisory published on August 8, 2012 (GAIN Report IN2108), as this clause was inconsistent with the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act and Rules. According to the new FSSAI advisory, all food business operators (FBOs) must apply for approval before commercializing a new product or ingredient. Paragraph 4 of the previous advisory stated “Also, if authority has already received an application for a product or NOC issued, other FBO’s manufacturing/importing the exact product need not apply for product approval.
