On April 30, 2012, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) gave further extension to the clearance of imported alcoholic beverages via letter no.1/2008 on its website.

General Information: Introduction: In continuation to the previous circular (circular no. CP CE- 044-2011-CIRCULAR (3)) and letter(s) issued by FSSAI, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) gave further extension to the clearance process pertaining to alcoholic beverages on its website. The guidelines state that minor labeling “defects” may be corrected at the customs warehouse under the supervision of the customs department for another three months. The policy is in effect until July 20, 2012, or until FSSAI issues official guidelines. This procedure will enable importers of alcoholic beverages to correct inconsistencies in labeling after products arrive in India.
