Rio-based power utility Light will invest R$ 300 million (approximately US$ 170 million) in
2012 to upgrade its underground systems. About US$ 17 million of this amount will be spent in
monitoring systems to upgrade Light’s underground vaults. Another US$25 million would be
invested to improve Light’s automated systems. These investments are part of Light’s
remediation plans to solve the problem of underground explosions that took place in Rio over the
year and a half.
Due to those explosions, Light contacted CS Rio for assistance in arranging a technical visit to
New York to visit Con Edison power utility. CS Rio and the New York Export Assistance
Center facilitated the visit, which took place in November 2011.
