Plastics is one of the fastest growing industries in India with a gross turnover of approximately
$25 billion and annual growth of 15 percent, making this country one of the fastest growing
plastic markets in the world. The plastics processing sector is expected to grow significantly
because large international companies across industries such as automobile, electronics,
telecom, food processing, packaging and healthcare are setting-up manufacturing facilities here.
In 2010, U.S. exports of plastic products to India reached $743.8 million. This is one reason
that twenty two U.S. plastics companies exhibited in the PlastIndia 2012 trade show which was
held February 1-6 in New Delhi, India. The overwhelming interest in the International Buyers
Program (IBP) delegation planned for the National Plastics Expo, which will be held April 1-5,
2012 in Orlando, Florida, also reflects the sector's importance.
To meet the growing demand over the next two decades, the plastics industry in India is
expected to offer promising investment and export opportunities for U.S. companies.
