A study of heel lifts by the Sackler Medical School on chronic low back pain patients and leg length discrepancy, revealed that a conservative correction with a heel lift with leg length discrepancy can relieve chronic lower back pain.

They divided the group of patients with leg length discrepancy and low back pain into two groups. One group received a heel lift to correct their leg length unequality and the other did not receive a heel lift. The results showed that wearing a heel lift for unequal limb length reduced their chronic lower back pain more significately than with out a heel lift.

Atlas Biomechanics recommends that the practitioner evaluate all their chronic lower back pain patients for unequal limb length. When limb length discrepancy is present, a heel lift is dispensed to the patient.

Atlas Biomechanics is a women owned small business producing US made heel lifts for the international medical community.
