Overview About International Trade in Monaco

Economic Overview

In 2008, the principality was particularly affected by the crisis due to the high level of the financialization of its economy. This provoked a sharp decrease in the GDP growth rate. It is estimated that growth should remain weak during the next following years. 

The economy of Monaco depends mainly on tourism (particularly the attractiveness generated by the casinos) but it has also been diversified into other sectors, such as finance, banking, maritime activities, cosmetics and biothermics. In order to face the crisis, the government launched a stimulus plan and guarantees credits to support industry and trade. 

The country has a very high living standard and unemployment is almost nonexistent.

 

FDI in Figures

Monaco does not publish national income figures. It is estimated that investing inflows have slowed down due to the unfavorable international economic situation. 

Monaco has created a stimulating environment for foreign investors, as it is shown by its extremely low tax rates which have contributed to making the country a tax haven and also due to its simplified procedures for setting up a business on its territory.
