8.1 Operation Mode


In terms of operation mode, independent stores still play a dominant role, while chain-operated stores are developing rapidly. In 2007, total sales of China's top 100 chain operations reached Rmb1,002.2 billion, a growth of 21% year-on-year which is higher than the 16.8% growth of total retail sales of consumer goods. Sales of the top 100 chain operations account for 11.2% of total consumer goods retail sales.
