Bechtel International, the consortium formed by SNC Lavalin Nuclear, Ansaldo Nucleare Spa and Elcomex IEA SA, with SNC Lavalin as leader, and the consortium led by Atomtechnoprom, plus other 4 companies of the Russian federation, are competing for the construction of Units 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, the Ministry of Economy announces in a press release.
The evaluation commission will analyse, in the near future, the documentation submitted by the three candidates, and will decide which of them qualifies for the next stages of the procedure: clarifying the technical specifications of the NPP, presenting and negotiating the preliminary offers, negotiating the final offers, deciding the winner company and awarding the contract. The acquisition procedure of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (IPC) contract, currently unfolded by SC EnergoNuclear SA jointly with the representatives of its shareholders, started on September 16, 2010 and is planned to run all through 2011 and in the first half of 2012.
The project is evaluated at EUR 3.2 bln, VAT exclusive.
Bechtel is an American company already present in Romania, where it builds the Transilvania motorway. SNC Lavalin Nuclear is a Canadian company specialised in nuclear energy. Actually, the Cernavoda NPP is built on Canadian technology CANDU 6. Atomtechnoprom is a Russian company specialised in the construction of nuclear power plants.
